A Leetle Bit Tipsy ...

I think I mentioned a few months ago that my friend in California signed me up for the wine of the month club as a Christmas present. Our latest brand arrived - and it's from my home state! Which got me thinking out The Honeymoon. The hubster and I went to the southern part of the state to a mountain cabin...absolutely lovely, but we ventured into a nearby town one day to tour a local winery. After about three tastes we ended the fruity wines (the ones I like) and hit the harder stuff. I told the vendor that I didn't want to sample these but he kept pouring anyway. Feeling bad, the hubster began drinking... and drinking.... and drinking. By the time we were finished I think he had consumed a couple of bottles and was just the slightest bit (hahahahahahaha!!!) tipsy. We went back to the cabin and napped for the rest of the afternoon... It was a fun trip but we've never, ever gone to a wine tasting since!

Pens and Paper...

In my life as a freelancer I find a wealth of information at trade shows and conferences. Most times I attend to meet with or interview a particular person or speak with a specific company but nine times out of ten I make more contacts that lead to future work. When I'm at these events, though, I'm always surprised at the wealth of custom promotional product that really aren't worth much. When it comes to these types of shows I find that the simpler the product the better. Seriously pens, small notepads or even a letter opener is so much better than a lunchbox cooler, travel mug or humongous tote. Are those things good? No doubt about it but once a person gets home, they usually stay in a closet somewhere. Pens and paper? We use those daily - and that's a great way to keep your name in front of your clients.

Dum, Dum, Da-Dum!

So wedding bells have been ringing in my ears all month. Why? Because the hubster and I are celebrating a big milestone this month: our 10 year wedding anniversary! I have lot of stuff from the bachelor/bachelorette parties, the rehearsal dinner and the wedding all socked away and I've been going through some of our favorite cards and other silly stuff - like the green-curtain 'veil' my bridesmaids made me wear to a bar! - and then I got sad. Because I've only got 1 unmarked copy of our wedding invitations left! I have a copy in our wedding album and so do my mom and his mom and our grandmothers, but there is only 1 'loose' copy left. I don't know why that bummed me out but it did!

I know, I'm weird lately. But that one copy is going somewhere special...like a safety deposit box!

A Success Story!

Well, of sorts anyway! When I was working Out West, one of my co-workers had a child born with cerebral palsy; this child had a very severe case as far as physical problems, but was sharp as a tack in some other areas. When we would have company get-together, she was the star of the day and no one ever thought twice about her disabilities. I got an email today that our favorite Little Star just had a huge breakthrough - she graduated!

I'm so excited for her and for the family. No, life isn't always easy, but these little victories make things so much better!

Movie Night!

During the big Writer's Strike in LA last winter, the hubster and I basically wrote off traditional television (most of it was the same story being told and retold anyway). Now we watch channels like HGTV, Discovery and the like. And we watch a lot of movies. We just finished the new Kirk Cameron movie and are waiting for our next selection to arrive in the mail. I've also been looking into Christian videos from this entertainment company. The clips look really interesting so I think we're going to try a few out and see what we see!

Are You Covered?

So, in the process of rehabbing and selling the condo, buying land and now putting the finishing touches on our new home we've had a ton of meeting with our insurance agent. What did we learn? That we have an 'okay' amount of life insurance but may not be fully covered. However, raising to the next level with that agent is more than we want to pay so we've been shopping around for other life insurance rates to see if we can get additional coverage at a lesser cost. So far, our agent's rates are still the best and right at the limit we want to pay ... but we have a few more rates to check before making our final decision.
